The Faroe Islands is a paradise for nature lovers and perfect for walking without a guide. Experience up close the birdlife, the green nuances of the mountains, the colourful villages, beautiful deep fjords and the nearby islands that rise majestically. Maybe you will feel as though you are part of a fairytale world.

Day 1: Friday
Arrive to Vágar Airport and collect your hire car. Drive to the village of Miðvágur where the old path leads out to Trælanípan. Sit and enjoy the atmosphere of the waves and the birdsong all around. The path follows the shoreline of the largest lake, Leitisvatn. At the end of the lake is a waterfall, Bøssdalafossur. For more information contact the tourist office in Miðvágur before you start the walk. Overnight accommodation on Eysturoy.
Day 2: Saturday
From Fuglafjørður you can follow the old path called Sjúrðargøta towards Hellur. On top of the Skarðið path are two cairns. The custom is to throw three small stones onto the cairns every time you pass by. You have a fantastic view across to the Northern Islands. For more information contact the tourist office in Fuglafjørður before you start the tour. Overnight accommodation on Eysturoy.

Day 3: Sunday
Visit to the picturesque village of Saksun, which is located at the end of a road leading. The bay was once a protected natural harbour, but today the entry to the bay has silted over. At low tide, you can walk on the sand out to the open sea. Visit Dúvugarðar, which is a beautiful example of a typical Faroese farm with grass roofs. Evening ferry to Suðuroy passing the islands Sandoy, Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun. Accommodation on Suðuroy.
Day 4: Monday
Take the mountain road to Sumba then walk a few hundred metres west to reach the edge of the cliff and a spectacular panoramic view of the Beinisvørð headland to your left. Do not miss the lighthouse at Akraberg on the southern tip. In Vágur, visit the unique Ruth Smith gallery and “Sirri”, which designs garments made from
Faroese wool. Overnight accommodation in Suðuroy.
Day 5: Tuesday
From the village Sandvík drive or walk along the gravel road to see the free-standing cliff called Ásmundarstakkur. In the village of Hvalba you can visit the only coal mine in the Faroes which still operates in the traditional way. A short walk called Á Røðina immediately after the tunnel from Hvalba, will take you to the dramatic western side of the island which is definitely worth a visit. Overnight accommodation on Suðuroy.
Day 6: Wednesday
Visit the tourist office for information and a walking map. Suðuroy has many good walks, e.g. to the top of Rávan or to the awardwinning Hvannhagi headland. In the afternoon, return by ferry to Tórshavn. See the exhibition by Faroese artists on board. Overnight accommodation in Tórshavn
Day 7: Thursday
Take a guided walk through the historic parts of Tórshavn called Tinganes and á Reyni. We recommend a walk over the mountain to Kirkjubøur.
